As women, it’s important for us to take care of ourselves. It’s not just that we take care of others–family, friends, co-workers, jobs and homes– we need to focus on taking care of ourselves first- particularly when it comes to health issues. ESPECIALLY when it comes to health issues because good health = beauty and beauty= style and fashionable. Who better to talk to about fashion, beauty and style than Stacy London from TV’s What Not To Wear?
We know about mammograms and flu vaccines, but how about checking with your doctor for the annual visit regarding cervical cancer? When was the last time you had a gyn check-up? Not the most pleasant of MD visits and one that a lot of women put off.
Along with Stacy London, I was able to chat with Dr. Donnica Moore, President, Sapphire Women’s Health Group, about the important of Makethecommitment.org and regular checkups regarding HPV and cervical cancer.

You can hear that discussion with Stacy and Dr. Moore on this podcast.
It’s National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and women are being urged to Make the Commitment to talk with their healthcare professional about ways that they can prevent cervical cancer, including getting regular screenings. Women’s health expert Dr. Donnica Moore has teamed with Stacy London, Aisha Tyler, and Susie Castillo to make women more aware about cervical cancer and get them committed to taking action (see your MD) during this month– National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
To step up the effort, women who make the commitment will be rewarded not only by knowing that they have done something important for their health, but they will also receive a free Make the Commitment bracelet, while supplies last.
Merck will also contribute $1 to CRPF, up to $100,000, for every online Commitment made. In addition, women who make the commitment will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes to win a limited edition Make the Commitment necklace designed by Stacy London .

As a woman’s health expert and mother of a daughter, the messages of Make the Commitment are personally and professionally important to me,” says Dr. Donnica Moore, President, Sapphire Women’s Health Group. “Women need to know that cervical cancer may be preventable through routine screening and other measures. So make the commitment to talk to your healthcare provider this month about ways to reduce your risk of cervical cancer.”
“In the United States, thousands of women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year,” said Carolyn Aldige, Founder and President of CRPF. “Sadly, women don’t realize that cervical cancer may be prevented through regular screenings and other measures, or how common HPV infection is. By making the commitment to talk to their healthcare professionals, women can arm themselves with information about ways to prevent the disease.”
In general, HPV is very common. In fact, of the approximately 6 million new cases of genital HPV in the U.S., it is estimated that 74 percent of them occur in 15- to 24-year-olds. Although this statistic includes not only the cancer-causing HPV types, but low-risk HPV types as well, it’s still important for women to realize that genital HPV is common and easily transmittable.
“Last year we encouraged women to make the connection between HPV and cervical cancer. This year we hope that women will make the commitment to step up to the issue and talk to their healthcare providers about ways that they can prevent the disease including getting regular cervical screenings,” added Kaye Popofsky Kramer, Founder of Step Up Women’s Network.
Make the Commitment is part of CRPF and Step Up Women’s Network‘s ongoing commitment to cervical cancer awareness. In 2005 the two organizations launched Make the Connection, created to increase awareness of cervical cancer, its cause and the importance of preventive screenings.
The Make the Commitment campaign is sponsored by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation (CRPF) and Step Up Women’s Network, with support from Merck & Co.
So now’s the time! Make that appointment with your physician and get your annual check-up and make sure you discuss what you can do to prevent cervical cancer and any potential risk factors. This is YOUR LIFE and you only get one chance– NOW is the time to do something about it. Talk to your family, talk to your friends, talk to co-workers. MAKE A DIFFERENCE. You could save a life — and it could be your own!

I must say that Stacy and Clinton absolutely know what style and proper “cuts” to suite a person, they have NO CLUE about something equally IMPORTANT!!! The RIGHT colour to suite a person’s skin tone ! Comments about colour are made by them on “occasion”, but unfortunately they are usually VERY off base.I am shocked they have no education in this field, ot just choose to go against colour sense for some reason. For example, more often than not, a person with a “warm” skin is ACTUALLY encouraged to wear blacks and greys ! Hello ? They look sick not to mention bigger! The producers would do well to hire a colour draper and add THAT portion to the show. Apart from that ( which is EXTREMELY and EQUALLY IMPORTANT,) they know what they’re doing.
Cheers…Michelle
