Given the number of movies in theaters starting this weekend, you might not find time for DVDs or you might think that they can wait till "later". Here’s a DVD that needs your attention ASAP– not for the thrills or chills, but for the sheer wit, fun and story.
Nanny McPhee drops on May 9, 2006 and is the almost fractured fairytale of a widower with 7 children who have managed to run their dad crazy and drive off SEVENTEEN nannies. YES!!! SEVENTEEN!!! Naughty doesn’t begin to describe these children!
From mad chemists to crazy run-amuck kiddies, this is a movie that takes Mary Poppins and gives it a good-natured twist to make it more contemporary.
Nanny McPhee walks into their house and their lives — of both children and father– are NEVER the same!
Emma Thompson and Colin Firth in the lead roles give the right amount of tongue in cheek humor while still providing some serious acting.. comedy being much more difficult than drama. The children are amazing in their roles and are "real" children, not just child actors (emphasis on the ACTOR) pretending to be normal children.
This fun, frenetic roller coaster of a film is definitely suitable for children of all ages– particularly those who feel they were deprived of a childhood and wish to vanish once more into that "never never land" of being a kid without being overly sacharine.
I am not about to spoil this movie for those who haven’t seen it, but it’s worth renting (or buying if you have children). I think it’s a hoot and there aren’t many children’s movies that I can tolerate. I think when my daughter was really small I saw Poppins so many times that I would hear the songs in my dreams when I was asleep. So if I like it, it’s got to be pretty darn great! Universal Studios definitely has a winner here!
