Found on Facebook, shared by Dex Phillips who got it from Helen Sanderson & Associates. It’s one of the most potent, affecting and interesting videos to teach ME something about dementia and Alzheimer’s. I know enough about the disease to speak somewhat knowledgeably but this video goes much deeper than the knowledge I had or any experiences I have had in that sector and with that disease.
Here’s the commentary from the Sanderson & Associates group:
This is one of the most powerful clips I have ever see, Gladys Wilson is in the later stages of her experience of dementia – we often step back & let the person go seeing only a shell. This teaches us that everybody can be reached. I felt some discomfort watching initially but had to put that down to my arrogance when I saw the end, please have a look! Gill
For those with loved ones or friends that are deteriorating, here’s something you can do to give back and help that person return to the present with YOU!! The power of touch, the power of music or song, the power of being close. It’s what all people need– whether at the first part of your life as a baby or at the end of your life.
This is a video I won’t forget. Please share it!

we have care homes here which are ‘sensory’ – built around the idea that patients with dementia need constructive sensory reminders around them. Touch is one of the most important of the senses I think!
love that concept.. I don’t know if we have it hear.. one doesn’t find out until one has to deal with a family member in this situation
We took care of my mom using all her senses. She enjoyed music and her garden, and especially her therapy hound. At the very end foot reflexology was helpful too.
