It’s Getting Hot in Here! Chill Out By Mixing Up a Cocktail or Two with Maker’s Mark!

It was 90 degrees in my yard today and I started thinking about mixing up some tasty cocktails. By the time, it was 95 degrees, I definitely wanted to have something cool to sip with some interesting flavors. I am sure you have noticed significant weather changes lately and what better time is it to mix up a cocktail or two for a summer evening -with or without friends. Here is a collection from Maker’s Mark cocktail recipes that are perfect for this time of year. These recipes include some very summer-oriented drinks and most are easy to translate into a pitcher drink.

Which Maker’s Mark should you buy? Below are the descriptions of each variety that Maker’s Mark has made:

House Cocktail  (This is the name of the cocktail!)

Ingredients:
1 ½ parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon
1/5 part Fresh lemon Juice
4 parts Kentucky Ale-8-One®
8 dashes Angostura bitters
Method
Build the bitters, fresh lemon juice, Maker’s Mark® Bourbon, into a highball glass with ice.
Top off with Kentucky Ale-8-One® and stir once.

 

Maker’s Mark Hurricane

Ingredients:
2 parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon
2 parts passion fruit juice
1 part fresh orange juice
1 part fresh lime juice
1 parts real pomegranate grenadine
1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry

Method
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add bourbon, passion fruit syrup, the citrus juices, and grenadine.
Cover the shaker and shake vigorously until frosty cold.
Strain into a double old-fashioned or high-ball glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with orange slice and cherry.

 

Family Meal

Ingredients:
1 ½ parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon
¼ part Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate (Chef Newman uses Harden coffee, which is house roasted 15 miles from restaurant)
Mexican Coke, as needed
Lemon Peel, for garnish

Method:
Build coffee and Maker’s Mark® Bourbon in a rocks or highball glass.
Add ice and stir gently.
Top with Mexican cola and finish with oil from a strip of lemon peel.

 

Maker’s Mark Mojito
A classic warm weather cocktail with sweet, minty taste notes and a smooth, easy finish.

Ingredients:
2 parts Maker’s Mark® Bourbon
1 part lime juice
2 teaspoons sugar
10-12 fresh mint leaves
Splash DeKuyper® Triple Sec Liqueur
Lime wedge for garnish

Method:
Combine sugar, half of the mint leaves, lime juice and a splash of triple sec in a glass and stir or lightly muddle until the sugar dissolves.
Add the desired amount of crushed (or cubed) ice.
Lightly rub the remaining mint leaves to release oils before dropping in the glass.
Top with soda or sparkling water, garnish with lime wheel.

 

Mojitos, Hurricanes and the rest of these great drinks have unique ingredients. Don’t skimp! Get quality mixes and produce for garnishes.  If you are dealing with Maker’s Mark, you should be using high-quality ingredients to pair with this super-premium bourbon whiskey.
