If you aren’t familiar with Elizabeth House- and what role it plays in the greater San Gabriel Valley (and LA County) community, this post is for you. When I was invited to this event, I had never heard of Elizabeth House. This organization provides vital assistance to homeless, pregnant women and their children.

Elizabeth House exists to provide shelter, hope and support to homeless, pregnant women and their children by addressing their physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic needs in a nurturing atmosphere. Elizabeth House has been serving women and children in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years.
Elizabeth House is a residential shelter program in the community of Pasadena committed to the health and welfare of adult pregnant women and their children. Elizabeth House is the only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the San Gabriel Valley that specifically addresses the needs of pregnant women who also have small children and who lack adequate shelter and prenatal care.
Twenty years later, Elizabeth House has provided essential shelter, food, care and counseling for 280 women and 400+ babies/children in the San Gabriel Valley. This basic yet comprehensive service of meeting the physical, economic, emotional and spiritual needs of this population continues to be a huge need today.
As I dove into this non-profit organization, it reminded me of my time volunteering for similar organizatons. These non-profit provide services to help those in need.
The event at Elizabeth House:
Elizabeth House Receives Prenatal Supplement Donation from Former The Doctors Co-Host, Dr. Lisa Masterson, and Her Mobile Mom Squad
Nationwide, close to 20 percent of women don’t have access to prenatal care. Elizabeth House, the non-profit located in Pasadena committed to ending homelessness and abuse in women and children, welcomed Dr. Lisa Masterson, OBGYN, former co-host of the medical talk show, “The Doctors”and creator of “Health in Heels with Dr. Lisa”, to raise awareness surrounding the importance of prenatal care.
Dr. Lisa visited Elizabeth House in her Mobile Mom Squad, a Pregnancy Health Aide-sponsored vehicle that offers a broad range of on-site prenatal healthcare services to underprivileged women.
The event was held on August 1 from 11am-1pm PT at Elizabeth House, 760 Santa Barbara Street, Pasadena, CA 91101.
The U. S. Public Health Service and the CDC recommend that all women of childbearing age consume 0.4 mg of folic acid daily to help prevent major birth defects. Given that it is unlikely that many Elizabeth House residents are getting the amount of folic acid necessary to help prevent these serious birth defects, Dr. Lisa’s Mobile Mom Squad delivered 10,000 boxes of Mteryti® and Mteryti® folic 5 prenatal multivitamins. The maker, Duchesnay USA, donated the uniquely formulated prenatal multivitamin supplements.
Dr. Masterson was on-site to discuss the mission of the Mobile Mom Squad and the partnership with Elizabeth House along with Debbie Unruh, Executive Director of Elizabeth House, who I interviewed on the podcast embedded below along with Dr. Lisa Masterson, and Program Director, Terry Bright.
The prenatal vitamins donated to Elizabeth House will be distributed to facilities across the Greater LA and Orange County area, including the Foothills Pregnancy Resource Center.
