Whoa– Memorial Day is long gone and it’s JUNE! Time for summer to start and have you tried on that bathing suit yet? If not, maybe now is the time- because (seriously) ladies, you need to see how it fits and if it doesn’t fit, not only do you need a new suit, but maybe you need to get into a fitness kind of mode!
Fitness means eating healthly, living healthy and moving– as in some kind of workout. If you are out of shape or haven’t been getting any exercise lately, you want something with lots of cueing and some serious moves. Core Fusion is one of my favorite workouts. I have all the DVDs and I LOVE them because they are solidly put together so that you can go from basic to more advanced easily as you progress in using them. Elisabeth Halfpapp and Fred DeVito are the trainers who have created the blend of pilates plus yoga plus (fill in the blank) workouts that will challenge you at any and every level of fitness. These DVDs have terrific longevity.
The three most recent ones I have tried are awesome:
This DVD was probably the hardest one for me to do because I am personally so pilates-oriented and thus because the basic platform of yoga is similar to but very different from pilates, I tackled this one first. The beauty of this workout is that they have a classroom set-up so that people can find the person to follow. I varied between the beginner, intermediate and a few poses of the advanced people. It’s one of those workouts where slower is better. Do not advance too quickly until you are absolutely certain you have completely mastered the pose at the most basic level and look at the posture– and the core as the key. If you aren’t absolutely certain, you don’t move on. You can break the poses down into bits and pieces until you reach the point of mastery and then keep going. I found this a challenging yet fun workout. Some days I was more flexible than others– you will find that true as well. Please check this out if you are a yogaphile because it’s a fascinating, challenging workout that will take you into spots where you can see what Fred and Elisabeth are doing and thus improve your form. It’s ideal if you can’t make it to a studio or need to watch your budget. However the lack of a true class interaction where an instructor can correct your form is missing but it will still keep you in the loop particularly when you can’t afford the time or the cost of multiple sessions per week.
Core Fusion Pure Abs and Arms:
This DVD is a highly effective one particularly if you want to focus on specific body parts. Maybe you already have a great workout in place but want to ramp up the abs and carve out some toned arms , this is the DVD for you. I love this one! It’s changed up my arms and shoulders immensely and I love the abs workout because it’s extremely challenging. I have done every Core Fusion workout and this one really works me hard. I can feel it the next day. I like how it makes me stronger and makes my back more flexible. This again has variations for beginners and if you have never taken a Core Fusion class or worked with the program, this might be a good place to start because your arms will show results quickly and the abs will definitely respond– providing you place close attention to form.
There are parts of this DVD that I do independently –that’s how well I know it and I do it twice a day to keep my arms and abs engaged and in good tone.
Bootcamp is a very challenging workout. Even if you are a devotee of Core Fusion classes or DVDs, please don’t jump into the advanced moves until you have done this workout at least 10-15 times. This is a blend of cardio + yoga + pilates + barre work. Easy — that’s not this workout. But you will get amazing results as you sweat and work and increase your balance, strength, core and sculpt all in one workout. If that’s what you are seeking– to get maximum results with one workout– this is the one to check out. It’s fast and you need to be aware that precision in your posture and workout is key to not getting injured and achieving the results. I like this one but I take it down a few notches because I do not do this one every day and I want to make sure that I don’t topple over. (It’s happened when I am slightly off balance– so be aware of your posture. Engage the abs and make sure you are properly balanced when you do each pose).
LOVE the ball work. it’s so much like a class that I feel that I am part of that group. Elisabeth and Fred do some amazing cueing.
These are the three workouts that I was able to obtain from Acacia. They were generous enough to give them to me. Look for more workout reviews in the next couple weeks because mixing it up keeps it from getting boring. if you get all three of these workouts– you will do just fine. Nothing is boring from the Core Fusion team!
