I met the “Shoe Goddess”, Florence Azria, as part of the Glam.com team of writers covering the Governor’s Conference for women. We sat next to each other at lunch and had a chance to talk a bit. She mentioned some of her charity work but we talked about shoes a lot– really a lot!!
Little did I know that when she said charitable work, it was really “work” that was making a significant difference in the inner city of Los Angeles, A Place Called Home What is “A Place Called Home”?
I have been following the press in WWD, FashionWireDaily.com and also other outlets where “Flo” has been getting quite a bit of attention. Recently I saw her at the Warren Tricomi/ MopShots party and we had a serious chat about what she is doing in her work at A Place Called Home— which she said occupies a special place in her heart. to her life.
What is A Place Called Home?
It is an organization where Azria contributes her time and efforts to provide at-risk youth with a secure, positive family environment where they can regain hope and belief; earn trust and self-respect; and learn skills to lead to a productive lifestyle free of the gangs, drugs and the poverty that surrounds them. They help inner city youth find their dreams through educational enrichment and intervention.

This spring, it may be harder than usual for a girl from South Central Los Angeles to find the prom dress of her dreams, A Place Called Home participates in the Cinderella Project and hope that this just may be just the “Fairy Godmother” they need.

Florence would really love it if you helped out. It’s something special — and if you are local, you can donate your time and skills to this worthwhile and nationally recognized organization.
Congrats to all the women being honored and particularly to Florence who puts a huge amount of herself into this organization
