Susanna Salk, Lifestyle and Entertaining Expert + Editor of House & Garden Magazine, just got off a plane at LAX and managed to snag some cell phone time to talk to us about an event TOMORROW NIGHT (Tuesday 5/2/2006) at MACYS South Coast Plaza that’s all about entertaining.
The theme of the Kahlua-sponsored, MACYS event, is called
"AS WEDDING SEASON APPROACHES… "
( Or Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, Memorial Day, Summer BBQs and any reason for a party… and let’s be honest … if you need a reason for a party, you need a new life!!)
Don’t think this is just for the "about to be " or "newlywed" couples, there’s a lot here that Susanna Salk can teach you about entertaining
with flair, style and wit and do it without breaking your bank account!!

Send guests home with a cocktail recipe as a token from the evening
–Mix the exotic with the everyday — use flowers, texture, and colors to create an extraordinary tabletop display.
–Don’t be afraid to try new color mixes. It’s summer: which means you can mix tropical colors and textures into the mix without fear.
—Don’t just use your regular tablecloths — buy a yard of fabulous fabric to be used to create a mood.
Susanna offers terrific ideas that don’t have to cost a lot of money and can be done easily without a lot of fuss.

This easy to concoct drink makes for an enjoyable evening and the recipe already printed out for guests to take home makes the event even more ‘
memorable evening–it gives them something to remember the event. I try to create a signature cocktail like the “Kahlua Bliss” that incorporates the theme of the evening:
1 part Kahlua
1 part Stoli
1 part Hiram Walker Raspberry Schnapps
2 parts milk or half & half
Dash of grenadine
Shake well with ice, strain into glass. Garnish with raspberries, chocolate curls or coffee beans.
Here’s a great dish to make for dinner: Roast Chicken Glazed with Kahlua–YUM!!!
