Duck Hunter Wines should be on your shopping list for the upcoming holidays. Whether you are planning on using them as gifts or using them at your dinner table, you don’t want to miss the Duck Hunter wines from New Zealand! Not only do they have great scores from the bible of the wine world, Wine Spectator, but the wines are very affordable and live up to their scores.
New Zealand is a great place for growing grapes and making wine. The New Zealand Winegrowers are an active group who seek to keep their country’s wines in high visibility.
Our temperate maritime climate allows a wide range of wine varieties to flourish. Whatever your preferences, we’re sure to have a wine to suit your palate.
I have tried many wines from New Zealand and liked them all. However, there are a few that were head and shoulders about others and one of those wineries was the Duck Hunter Winery!
Disclosure:
I was offered an opportunity to try a bottle of the Duck Hunter Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Noir. The samples made it possible for me to do this review. Otherwise, this would be a post describing two wines without any recommendation.
The first wine I got was the Duck Hunter Pinot Noir.
I have a love affair going with Pinot Noirs. I like finding Pinots that have a lighter flavor profile and aren’t trying to be a heavy red. The Duck Hunter Pinot Noir is a lighter red with a nice body to it. There are lighter fruity notes to be appreciated and the tannins aren’t barging in trying to take over the wine presentation. This is a wine I would have in the summer while sitting on the patio as the sunset. It’s perfect with fruit and cheese, it’s equally good with all kinds of meals. It’s an asset to a meal or a conversation. The flavors really sit well on your palate. The 91 from Wine Spectator is well-deserved!
This wine would be great as a gift or to share over dinner particularly for those people who don’t always like red wines. This is one red wine that could change their minds!
The Duck Hunter Sauvignon Blanc is phenomenal.
Sauvignon Blancs have been a favorite white of mine for over 20 years. I cut my teeth learning about wines with the lighter whites and those lighter whites have stuck with me. The Duck Hunter Sauvignon Blanc has a light touch of green in it along with notes of a variety of fruits. I get the peach & citrus notes, but not the passion fruit notes (most likely because I don’t really know what passion fruit tastes like.) The flavor profile is light on the tongue and it seems to bounce from note to note. It’s fresh, lively and tasty. This is a wine that should be bought 2 bottles at a time. It’s perfect with fish, tacos, chicken or even pork. If you are doing some Mexican style cooking, the Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for it! This wine is perfect for gifting. You will find it’s the wine you pull out when you want to have white wine. It’s just that good.
If you want to buy a bottle or three of these two wines, you should check here: http://www.duckhunter.co.nz/where-to-buy/ so that you can find a good place near you or you can order it to be delivered. You won’t be sorry with either of these wines.
